Say No to unsustainable Palm Oil
18 companies
Palm Oil is an ingredient found in many products in your local store. It is an ingredient found in foods, drinks, soaps, shampoos, and much more. Since demand is so high for Palm Oil, Palm Oil companies have begun to grow their plantations in horrifying ways. Places like Indonesia have fallen victim to the plantations who will illegally burn down many acres every day (about 300 every hour). Animals who are not killed in the fire, roam the plantation looking for food. The workers will view them as pests and beat, torture, and burn them alive. Any animal not discovered will still die from loosing the basic resources it needs to survive. Recently (May 17th) Palm Oil workers were seen putting poison out in the forest and killing animals like, the Sumatran Elephant, and Sumatran Orangutan. To prevent them from coming onto the plantation.
To make more money Palm Oil worker will also find infants (elephants, Orangutans) and kill their mother and sell the infant in the black market. These two species of animal, because they are so dependent on their mother for survival and care, they will die while being transported in the black market.
RSPO (Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil) has a list of companies that use sustainable palm oil in their products. I have noticed over the course of a year that the list has gotten much larger due to people writing letters to the companies that do not use sustainable Palm Oil. Boycotting companies has also been a huge factor in companies like: McDonalds, BurgerKing, Keebler, Oreo, and many more to convert to sustainable Palm Oil.
(I will have more companies to boycott as time goes on. The list of companies that use palm oil is constantly changing, and I want to keep the lists accurate.)
