There are many reasons to boycott Nestlé. The way it pushes baby milk. Its appropriation of community water supplies. Legal action is being taken against it over child slavery and labour in its cocoa supply chain. It is criticised for its treatment of dairy and coffee farmers. It is accused of trade union busting activities. And other concerns.
Baby Milk Action organises protests and raises questions at the Nestlé shareholder meeting, principally on the baby milk issue. The more people who support the boycott - and tell Nestlé - the more pressure it is under to make changes.
Nestlé pushes baby milk around the world using strategies that are prohibited by international marketing standards. It also refuses to warn of risks from formula and how to reduce them.
Nestlé knows that babies fed on formula are more likely to become sick than breastfed babies and, in conditions of poverty, more likely to die. It puts its own profits before health.
The boycott gives it a financial reason to think again and helps force changes.
However, Nestlé refuses to accept the four-point plan put to it by Baby Milk Action to save infant lives and ultimately end the boycott over baby milk. More pressure is needed. Join and share.
