Yes, I realize that cassette player/radios are pretty much extinct, but if you're looking for one to wear while walking or running, this would be an excellent choice. The extra reinforced plastic housing really does provide much better protection than any of the dozen or so regular cassette players I've used.

Sometimes, when you drop a regular cassette player, it survives with only a crack in the plastic, but usually one or two crashes to the pavement or sidewalk result in a player that won't play. This Shockwave takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

The Play, Forward, Reverse, and Stop buttons are easy to locate and use, even when you're running. Another nice feature is the locking button, which keeps the cassette enclosed, so no accidental bumps send it flying to the ground.

There's not much call for cassette players anymore, but if you're looking for one, Panasonic's Shockwave would be a good choice.

Follow-up after 3 weeks of use: It works wonderfully, never "eats" tapes, and I've found that the AA battery (Yes! it runs on a single AA battery!) lasts me many hours more than the 18 hours reported by others. Get a rechargeable AA battery and you're set for life.

they coming back with these cassette players but I would not pay that much for them I already have one I was gonna buy another one but not for that price.

I had one of these combined cassette player AM&FM radio units for about two decades before the tape direction reversal mechanism finally gave up and the drive belt derailed due to heavy usage.

When I found a used one (same model)in good condition I promptly bought it. That was three years ago, and it is still running like new.

Almost 25 years ago I paid about $80 for a new one. Today they cost about $400. I was not willing to pay that much, hence I was looking for a used unit in good condition at a reasonable price.
