- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2017Style: Ventline (Pre '08 Models)/Elixir ('94 & Up Models)Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseThe two year old vent cover on my travel trailer had deteriorated to the point of just crumbling apart, so a replacement was in order. Rather than pay the big bucks taking it to an RV repair shop, I figured I'd scout out some options online. I started to go with the $10 version, but saw this first and decided it was worth a little more for a heavier, more solidly constructed product. I'm pleased with that decision - out of the box this item was noticeably more solid and durable than the one I was replacing. The shape is a little more square, but it still fits the opening and seals properly.
Installation took me about 15 minutes, and a chunk of that was trying to find a long, skinny screwdriver that would fit to remove the two screws holding the screen in place. It was a pretty straightforward process - remove the 4 screws holding the casing in place on the inside, then remove the screw holding the handle crank in place. Next, the 2 screws holding the screen in place (that's where I needed a longer screwdriver than the one on my Leatherman) and finally the two screws holding the crank mounting in place so it can slide and allow the arm to disengage from the cover. From there, it was up to the roof with the needlenose pliers to bend the end back to slide the old vent off and the new one on. Once it was place, I used the pliers to bend the little metal ends to hold it in place, reinserted the crank arm in the slot, and headed back down to replace all of the screws.
I've got a nice, solid fit - it connects with the seal all the way around, and feels much sturdier than what I had before. Hopefully I won't have to do this again for years.

It doesnt let quite as much light in as the old one , not that it's a bad thing . I would buy this again for sure .
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2024Style: Ventline (Pre '08 Models)/Elixir ('94 & Up Models)Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseThese vent covers are EXCELLENT regarding being unbreakable, but be aware, they don't let light through like others. Not a big deal for me, especially in bedroom areas. Had 3 for over 10 years, and finally replaced my bathroom vent with this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2017Style: Ventline (Pre '08 Models)/Elixir ('94 & Up Models)Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseA few factors led me to purchase this item. First one was that I have three vents on the rig, and two of the stock lids broke over the winter; one due to snow accumulation and one from me removing said snow. The OEM replacement lids are $9-10, and like anything, you get what you pay for. The OEM lids were vent line, cheap plastic, and when exposed to the elements deteriorate quickly. Anyone that has an RV should be extremely mindful of their roofs. Water leaks are devastating to your investment, so why buy some cheap crap to keep the rig safe? Anyway, I purchased one of these to see how it was, and I'm glad I did. This lid seems to be a solid, quality product. It is very sturdy. The opening slide rail is even pretty solid, and mounting it was extremely easy. I believe it took me more time to remove the old one than install this. As a precautionary action, I purchased some plastic-friendly gloss coating, and applied three coats of the clearcoat to help assist with protection from the sun. I'll try to remember to update this post in a year or so, but so far, based on my handling the product, I would highly recommend using these as a replacement. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but what scenario some ends better: you have a solid rv vent cover that keeps the elements out and you never replace, or you buy some cheap plastic cap that cracks and breaks, water gets into your Rv, and you shell out thousands to repair the damage and put a on a new roof. I like choice number one.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2019Style: Ventline (Pre '08 Models)/Elixir ('94 & Up Models)Color: BlackVerified PurchaseI purchased this for my 2017 Rockwood Mini Lite. Even though it is only two years old, the front vent cover had deteriorated severely, and finally cracked one night during a small hailstorm (pea-sized.) Fortunately, I was in the trailer when it happened, and was able to cover the crack with Eternabond tape before any water got in. I ordered this vent cover from Amazon on a Tuesday, and received it on Thursday morning. The polycarbonate material is MUCH stiffer and more durable than the factory cover, so I expect it to last much longer. It does include installation instructions, and took less than ten minutes to install. One tip, make sure you remove the inner trim ring, screen, and crank arm mechanism before going on the roof. This must be done before removing the cover itself, at least on the Ventline and Elixir models. I removed the trim ring and the screen, but forgot about the arm mechanism, so had to go back down and inside before I could finish. The whole installation took less than twenty minutes, and could be done quicker had I done my homework more carefully. The cover looks great, and, most importantly, is water-tight again! Highly recommended over the flimsy plastic covers that come standard with most RVs.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2011Style: Ventline (Pre '08 Models)/Elixir ('94 & Up Models)Color: WhiteVerified PurchaseI haven't had these on long enough to say they will definitely last for years, but they feel like they will. All three of my originals have cracked in the two years we've had our trailer, starting at year one and the third one just recently. When replacing I can feel the difference from the old ones and these is huge, these just feel much thicker and stronger. The price difference really isn't much, I don't see any reason to buy the cheapies at all. If you haven't done it before, installation on these types of lids is very easy. If you have easy roof access it's a piece of cake, will just take a couple minutes. I climbed on the roof for the first one, the second one I just reached up thru the opening and changed the lids. It took a few minutes longer that way, had to feel my way thru it, but it was still pretty easy. The only thing you have to do on the outside is align the slot on the lid so you can slide it over the metal lip on the frame. The rest is under the lid where you can see.
EDIT: I have a forest river trailer, 2009. These fit perfectly. I have three vent lids, all 3 originals were replaced within the two years but first was with a standard, before I knew about these. That one I just replaced again with one of these. It was so brittle it practically came apart in my hands. The other two are these and they still feel strong.
