    My senior chihuahua loves it and has slept on it every night since the moment it arrived. It has proven to keep him much warmer at night in the chilly house as he no longer lays in his bed shivering before falling asleep. One of the other reasons why I got it is because it had also mentioned have some anti-anxiety properties. He used to routinely wake up in the middle of the night and pace around the room for over an hour for no real reason. It seems to have it stopped this. Also, we went away for a few days and he used to become very anxious after a day or two and pace and howl. He did not do that either this time.

    It does seem to become a little discolored on the underside of the mat, but it is not really noticeable and doesn't seem to get on anything else. I keep it on top of an old pillow for extra bed as this is what my old dog is used to. I haven't had to wash it yet. The mat seems plenty durable and a quality product. I have absolutely no complaints and this has actually improved the quality of life for my senior pup. I was a little skeptical about spending so much money on a mat, but am super glad I did. As far as I can tell, product does what it says it does. One of the best purchases I've made and would buy it all over it again.

    When I first got the pad, I sat on it to see what would happen. It did seem to get a little warm, but I am not sure that it was any warmer than the heat that normally gets reflected by the fabric on the couch. This was bought for a cat. I put it on top of a pad that he was already using, and he wouldn't go near it. I then put it under one layer of a thin fleece blanket that he also uses, but don't know if any of the warmth got through. I finally moved it to a padded chair that he likes to sleep on, and he does use it there. If nothing else, it keeps his hair off of the chair! I wouldn't buy one again.

    I debated washing this mat, I asked online if others had washed theirs and the answer was always yes.

    I washed it today in the machine, gentle cycle. Took it out, held it to the light in the laundry room, and I could see that the gray fabric or whatever it is inside, had torn into three strips. Considering the price I am hoping to return it.

    It seems to work for my cat. She is elderly and gets cold easily. I keep my bedroom cold and she is welcome to get under the covers with me if she wishes (which she does!) but many nights she chooses to sleep at the foot of my bed on a neat 3-sided bolster pad that I picked up at another site, with this self-warming pad on top. It must keep her warm because she is a heat seeking missile!

    Of course I put an electric throw on that bolster bed for her in the winter (on low) that stays on for 10 hrs at a time, because I don't heat the bedroom.

    I thought this would be something different. It is very hard to clean, looks like a dirty hairy piece of fabric and I think it is overpriced. But, the cat, who has many, many beds, really likes this in her cardboard box bed. I think she would love that box either way as she does the others she prefers over her bed. This is a strange product. I tried to feel if it was especially warm under my kitty and could not tell. I would not buy again.
