The music on this CD may at first appear somewhat 'hermetic', but when the moment is right to immerse yourself to the level of introspection Matthew Goodheart (p), Josh Allen (ts) and Garth Powell (perc.) show on their debut album, the intelligence, beauty and emotion of the music become clear. Ingenious, deep, witty and soulful improvisations of the band reveal accomplished and adventurous musicians in a comfortable setting. My first encounter with any of these three musicians -- who individually have collaborated with Cecil Taylor, Eugene Chadbourne, Wadada Leo Smith, Mats Gustaffson -- has left me wanting more.
