Bought this projector 6 months ago to replace my expensive Sony projector (costing more than $3500). Sony projector died after 4 years and would have cost $1500 to repair. Just ridiculous! Decided to go a different route and try a cheaper projector. So far the projector is working fine. Picture is obviously not as good but acceptable. Occasionally, it has trouble picking up the signal from my blu-ray player (Oppo 103). Picture adjustments are rather limited. However it is super bright. Have noted reviews of some users about short life span (18 months). If this can last 18 months, I will still be satisfied considering the rather low price.
UPDATE 09/07/18 After 2+ years of almost daily use, it is still running faultlessly. When this machine eventually goes kaput, I will definitely get another Optoma (probably 4K if the price drops).

Great projector, Awesome value!!
I'm new to the home theater thing but so far I'm loving it! I had rented this projector in the past for a Hollywood themed birthday party & was so impressed I decided to buy it for my family as a household Christmas gift. The picture quality is great! I was concerned about the lamp life when compared to others but we don't use it on a daily basis so 8000hrs (on Eco mode) should suffice. I would give it 5 stars but the speaker leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not to concerned with it because we will be adding a theater surround system soon. Also another terrific feature, the picture quality remains the same if your watching in the dark or with lights on. I believe that's related to the lumen count. Overall, I love product & I really loved the price. I would recommend to others.
