Half of Maelo is still better than most people's best.

Half of Maelo is still better than most people's best.
Maelo has several genuinely great songs like "Me Tienes Loco" and "La Dueña de mi Inspiracion". As I have said before, he has the ability to tell a story very well as these two songs (as well as many others throughout his career) seem to have true feeling. It's as if these things (the songs' topics) actually happened to the man. For some reason, this was my least favorite album by Ismael. There seems to be something "missing" in it, something I honestly can't put my finger on. Its still very very good, it's just that Ismael set such a high standard for me. Recommended.

Ismael Rivera recorded this album in his latter classic years. The sounds in this recording contain classic "Cachimbos", but with improved and more modern sounds. Salsa was evolving at that point in time and salsa artists were performing in Art Halls like the Puertorrican "Centro de Bellas Artes". The producers were including the sounds of electronic keyboards, violins, electric guitars, and other sounds of the "Disco", "Funk", era. Maelo kept his sound classic but somewhat more modern.

This album was Ismael Rivera's final studio LP but was just as good as any of his previous releases. "Cachita", "Duena De Mi Inspiracion" and "Si No Te Veo Mas" are classics from a legendary sonero whose work shall forever remain timeless.

A likable album by Ismael Rivera who was past his prime. But don't be fooled! What he lacked in vocal range at this point, he made up in feeling and soul. It is still a joy to listen and reminisce. He is sorely missed.

Good remastering and informative liner notes round up this fine offering.
