I purchased this timer to replace the lightswitch that controls my outdoor christmas lights. It could easily be used to replace any switch in your home that you'd like to have on a timer. To set the timer, there are 48 tiny switches around a dial labeled with the hours of the day. Each switch controls 30 minutes. Flip out all of the switches for the times during the day that you'd like the lights on. Then twist the dial so that the arrow points at the current time. I posted some pictures to illustrate this. You can also manually turn the lights on and off by moving the slider switch at the bottom between on, off, and timer. Installation is easy if you are comfortable working with your home's electrical wiring. Flip off the circuit breaker, grab a flat-head screwdriver and the instruction sheet from the package, and you'll be done in 10 minutes. This does exactly what I want to do, easily and simply.

The operation of this is simple, like every other lamp timer you've ever used. Installing it is not quite as easy. You must disassemble the rotator ring (instructions included, and sufficient) and remove the front panel to thread it through a wall switch plate. Requires a screwdriver, nothing more, really. Your circuit has to already have negative, neutral, and switch wire. (It requires its own power to run the timer, plus the switched circuit to control.)

Three wires out the back, while I've done plenty of switch and plug replacement, for some reason this didn't work on my first try. Instructions say "if it doesn't work, reverse the black and red leads." I did, and it worked fine. How did I mess it up? Dunno. However that required disassembling and reassembling the rotator and front plate again, which was a drag.

But it works fine, has been in service for several weeks, controls exterior floodlights (8 altogether) and I am happy.

I installed this in-line with pool pump (the wiring is in the garage then goes out to the pool). I bought a new work plastic box, and cut the wire. Make sure you have plenty of slack in the wiring (pull staples if need be). Everything hooked up good, but you will definitely need extra and bigger wirenuts. The included 3 orange wirenuts are very small. I used 2 of them for hooking up the line and load. However, for the neutral, there's no way you can combine the 2 neurals plus the timer's neutral. And don't forget you'll need to combine the 2 grounds also. So you'll need 2 red wirenuts extra to install this along with a box.

I bought this on August 24, 2011, and installed it a few weeks later. Today, the pool pump wasn't running at the set time. Checked the timer and it was 4 hours behind. Moved it ahead, and the pump never shut off at the proper time. Checked the timer again and it was exactly where I left it last; ie, it's dead. Piece of junk.

Worked great for a week or two and then would not turn on and off consistently. Some nights the light would not go on at the time set, other times it would not shut off when it was supposed to.

This timer is installed in my bedroom closet and controls my rear flood lights. Works fine but hard to see. Setting it is counterintuitive but once you figure it out and set it, it is reliable. I needed a timer with 3 wires to fit my current box and there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice especially in the lower price range. It was definitely worth the money.

It is a simple mechanical timer but for all of you out there who know very little about
electricity, a mechanical timer needs current to turn and it means hot and neutral wire.
The colored wires always carry current. Most home wires at the switch have only a switch leg
That is two colored wires that is connected or disconnected by the switch.
Installing a neutral (white) wire most cases is too much trouble unless you can find one near by.
Other than this, the timer is very useful and worth installing.

It's nice having lights on a timer. Just remember when installing, if the timer dial isn't moving, you need to switch the black wire connections. Otherwise, my only minor gripe is that the switches on the timer to set the on/off times are very small which makes it tricky to move one at a time.

Received & installed according to directions included. Needs to be installed with 4 wires into box, 2 white & 2 black. In other words, installion box needs to be inline with the run to the light it will control. Instructions say that is only way it will work. I rewired my light run so it was as instructed & installed timer. After monitoring for 7 days now, it will work one day & not the next. Either the light won't turn on as programed or it turns on & then won't turn off at designated time. Waste of time & money! Not worth effort to return because of short seller return time, restock fee, & shipping cost. Very disappointed in whole process with product & Amazon raising price after cancelling original order due to "out of stock". This is 3rd time in last few months this has happened with Amazon.
