Product Description
From the Manufacturer
Fujifilm's Super CCD imaging technology, once found solely in professional and advanced amateur digital cameras, is now available to every digital photographer. Fuji's FinePix A400 model is one of Fujifilm's new breed of entry-level digital cameras with Super CCD technology.
Fujifilm's decision to include the award-winning Super CCD sensor in its latest A-Series cameras is a boon to photographers who want the best image quality without the complexity of a more elaborate digital camera. Seven years ago, Fujifilm set itself apart from other manufacturers by introducing its own image sensor, the Super CCD. Using the human eye as a model and mimicking the way it functions, Super CCD enhances vertical and horizontal resolution, improves color reproduction, widens dynamic range, and increases signal-to-noise ratios and light sensitivities. All of these factors play important roles in the production of higher-quality digital pictures.
The Finepix A400 is ideal for the first-time digital camera buyer or any photographer who craves simplicity without sacrificing image quality. In addition to the Super CCD sensor, the Finepix A400 offers the following desirable features:
- 4-megapixel Super CCD HR performance. Users can enlarge pictures to an 8 x 10-inch print size without a problem and enjoy the zooming and cropping benefits this new mid-range-resolution camera provides.
- 3x Fujinon zoom lens. Fujinon, a Fujifilm sister company, is a world leader in lens technology. Broadcasters, astronomers, scientists, and the military all use Fujinon optics. The Finepix A400 has a sharp 3x optical zoom lens manufactured by Fujinon.
- Internal memory. This is a great safety net for FinePix A400 users. They can fill up their xD Picture card and have the security of knowing some extra space is tucked away for those unexpected picture moments.
- LCD with anti-glare properties. Fujifilm is a world leader in anti-glare monitor coatings, and this technology can be found in millions of LCD, plasma, and other displays around the world. The coating reduces glare on the 1.8-inch LCD of the FinePix A400 for easier viewing in direct light.
- Four scene modes: portrait, landscape, sport, and night. These scene modes are great aids in getting the best picture quality in challenging photo situations.
- AA batteries. Two AA batteries power the FinePix A400. This is yet another convenience for the user since AA batteries are readily available.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2007I bought this camera for my 3 year old and her grandfather wants one now! It's small, easy to use. It has an optical viewfinder and a nice big digital display on the back. It takes video clips. We bought a 1 Gigabyte videocard, very inexpensive (30 or 39 dollars). It uses 2 AA batteries. The pictures are great...
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2017I love this make and model for digital cameras.. I have other more expensive ones.. but reordered this one when mine died..
however since this is one of the few times i ordered pre owned.. I used the camera yesterday for a project and it already started acting funny. I think the sellers sold me a broken camera. I will contact Amazon if it stops working in the middle of shooting again
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2010I really can't review much about this camera because I didn't really have a chance to use it before it broke. The lens wouldn't retract and I get the message "zoom error." ...Packed it up and sent it back. Still waiting for my refund. Will not be buying this camera again.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2007THIS IS AN EXCELLENT LOW PRICED CAMERA TO HAVE WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES FOR SHOTS THAT YOU OTHERWISE WOULD MISS BY NOT HAVING YOUR LARGER MORE EXPENSIVE CAMERAWITH YOU.
ONLY PROBLEM FOUND IS SMALL VIEWING SCREEN BUT THEN MY EYES ARE 77 YEARS OLD AND NOT AS SHARP AS USED TO BE.GOOD CAMERA FOR PRICE.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2010Ive had this camera since 06. Its been from Pearl Harbor, Its been flown in airplanes big and small. Its been to museums, airshows. Its spent a lot of time in my pocket, and I have few complaints about it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2007I bought this camera for my wife, so she'd leave mine alone. I must admit, I didn't do my homework on this one. While for her, it's a great little camera that fits nicely in her purse and she carries it everywhere, the camera does well in high light situations but in low light levels, it is severely lacking. I don't have the availability of a flash meter to measure it's output, but the tiny built-in flash puts out a tiny burst that isn't very effective at more that 3-4 feet before it falls off sharply, and there is no hot shoe or off flash option available. The implied 4.1 MP resolution should be producing crisp lines, etc. but it's been very disappointing so far. I have seen better quality prints from plastic disposable cameras available in the kiosks at tourist attractions. The other bad news is that it takes the XD memory card instead of the SD or one of the other popular cards and sticks. I've found them rather difficult to find. All in all, I would tell anyone who asked me about it to look somewhere else.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2009The camera is easy to use. I received this camera for my birthday from my girlfriend. I love taking pictures. The bad thing is there is no sound with the mini movies. The batteries don't last long no matter what kind of batteries you buy. I've taken very good care of this camera & have never dropped it or left it in the heat or cold weather. This camera quit working after only owning it for 2 years. Don't buy it for the amount of money you spend on it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2009At 4.0 megapixels and with a bit of a delay in snapping a picture, this is hardly the best camera on the market, but it takes a decent picture, and at the less than forty dollars I paid for it, it was a fantastic deal.
