From the manufacturer

A Cut Above the Rest
Dominating the everyday carry, folding pocket knife market, Kershaw creates high-quality, high-performance, exceptional, working tools and knives affordable to all consumers. Kershaw always chooses appropriate, top notch materials and is dedicated to intensive craftsmanship of hardworking pocketknives, hunting knives, or special collectors’ editions. Kershaw’s advanced technology and innovative design combine to create solid, crafted, reliable knives users are proud to carry.
Spline Features
High-Performance Steel
A budget friendly, reliable, top-of-the-line Chinese produced steel, 8Cr13MoV steel has carbon and slightly less nickel for hardness and edge retention. Kershaw’s precision heat treated 8Cr13MoV steel strongly takes and holds an edge and offers wear resistance that can withstand damage from both abrasive and adhesive wear. 8Cr13MoV is a value blade steel featuring high performing characteristics.
Attractive Blade Finish and Coating
Kershaw’s patented Blackwash finish derives from a balanced blend of blade coating and stonewashing. Together the two produce a precisely formulated all-black matte finish impervious to fingerprints, smudges and marring. And, even though the knife itself is brand new, Blackwash projects a well-worn, vintage look popular for blending comfortably with clothes and gear during everyday use and carry.
Black oxide coating is a chemical bath, or conversion coating, that converts the surface of the blade steel to magnetite. Mainly for appearance, black oxide does add some mild corrosion resistance and tends to minimize light reflection from the blade. The blackening process gives the blade an attractive, smooth, tactical, fierce black surface that is very desirable to knife owners.
Fast Deployment
Using a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure.
Secure Locking System
Kershaw’s frame lock design makes knives safer, securer, sturdier and quicker for one-handed blade deployment. The knife handle, or frame, has two metal plates on either side of the blade, and when open, the lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent blade closure. To close the knife blade, push the frame to the side to unlock the blade and fold the blade back into the handle.
Additional Features
One-Handed Flipper
Knives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection.
Durable Handle
Stainless steel contains chromium to equip knife handles to withstand rusting and provide corrosion resistance. Stainless steel offers durability and is often used in combination with another material to make for an easier grip. Offering excellent durability, stainless steel knife handles often incorporate etching, patterns, ridges or lines for a less slippery grip.
Convenient Pocketclip
Kershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. A pocketclip with tip-up carry is positioned so the closed knife carries in the pocket with the tip of its blade pointed upwards. A reversible tip-up or tip-down pocketclip allows user to change tip position.
Product Description
Designed by custom knifemaker, Les George, and built by Kerhsaw, the Spline 3450BW is lightweight, compact and powerful intended to be very durable with razor sharp cutting. With a modified Wharncliffe blade conveniently sized to travel anywhere, it’s the perfect knife for any outdoor activity, household need or task. 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade with heavy jimping and curves make the blade tough and enable sharpening to a razor edge. The Spline offers a great all-around edge profile with exceptional push-cutting capability, equipped with a top swedge that thins the blade and a lowered tip to enhance cutting power. The blade’s BlackWash™ finish and stainless steel handle make the knife exceptionally handsome while giving a roughened, scuffed look. SpeedSafe Assisted Opening allows for fast and easy opening, and the ergonomic curves of the knife fits nicely in the hand. A secure frame lock and reversible pocketclip allow versatile carry, making the Spline the ideal EDC for any user.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2020I'm not allowed to carry a knife that has a blade longer than 3 inches at work. That was brought to my attention when a supervisor saw me using my Blur's 3 1/2 inch blade to cut some pallet straps. Wanting to be compliant, I picked up a Dividend, which I really like also but I was worried that the blade wouldn't be tough enough to stand up to my abuse. Then I saw the Spline. I love the lines of this knife. Sharpens easily and keeps an edge fairly well. I ended up putting a paracord lanyard on so I don't have to reach in my pocket at all to get to the knife. I also like that this knife has some heft to it. It really feels and preforms like a work knife, and for that reason it has become my everyday carry. The only drawback to this knife, in my opinion, is that the handle seems a little slick at times. Another reason for the lanyard. Overall, A great knife at a great price.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2020This is a sturdy, slim, well built EDC knife. It’s a great value for the price, which is why this is the second time I’ve bought it (I took the awesome deep carry pocket clip off and added it to a Kershaw Link, now I have a spare Spline!). The high hollow grind on this thin blade makes it a perfect slicer, and it comes razor sharp right out of the box. The handle is well designed and the ergonomics are superb- the deep finger groove coupled with the long flipper/guard ensures that your hand will not slip up onto the blade. With a blade under 3”, it’s more acceptable (I won’t say “legal”, you need to check your local laws for that answer) in many municipalities with strict knife restrictions across the US. FANTASTIC knife!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2020Frame lock is tight. Nice heft in a compact design. Flipper is smooth. Not sure if it has bearings or the more typical nylon washers in the pivot. Clip keeps the knife deep in pocket. Aside from the blade's edge, everything is rounded off. No sharp edges or corners anywhere. With a 2.9" blade, it's pretty much legal even in the most stringent locales. The only catch is that it is assisted open. So be aware of outdated local laws.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2017Just what I was looking for in a knife, useful on weekends and as an edc!..(except one thing. It is a tip up carry knife and the flipper catches on the "holster" that I use for my knife.). The knife has some weight to it and I liked the design of the blade. For me, it's the perfect size for an EDC (under 4 inches closed because I don't need to flash a machete to open a box).. I was really looking forward to owning this knife, but it's still just a little big and heavy for the pocket, and, like I say, It didn't work in my holster which is where I like my knife.. If you like the tip -up design in a knife that is handy in any situation, then this knife is surely a winner. I didn't take away any stars because. like I say, it's a great all around knife - it just didn't work in my particular holster.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2016Ordered one of these expecting mediocre quality given one of the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Blade is centered perfectly, no play, and opens very well. Finish is awesome. Only thing that keeps it from getting 5 stars is the clip, which doesn't actually allow the fabric of a jean pocket to go all the way into the clip (because there is no detent on the frame where the clip mounts, so the folded over part of the clip (which screws into the knife frame) stands proud of the frame just enough to catch on the fabric, keeping it from seating all the way down. When I have time, I may pull the clip off and try to grind a ramp into the portion of the clip that screws to the knife frame to see if that alleviates the problem. Otherwise, knife is great.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2020This is a great little knife. Yet, there is nothing little about it. It has a nice kick when opened with the open assist (the only way). Beefy, pretty sharp out of the box, deep pocket clip. So worth the $21. It’s $23 now but get one if you’re thinking about it. The new edc
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2019I have been a fan of Kershaw knives for years. Serious quality and bang for the buck and the Speedsafe assisted opening takes one handed use to the next level. And this knife has all that. The one thing I did not think about is the position of the pocket clip. It is not attached on the hinge end of the handle like so many of the Kershaw's that I have, putting the flipper in an awkward position when taking the knife from your pocket. But I can work through that. What bothers me more is the clip puts the knife hinge down, so if the blade happens to open slightly, there is a nice sharp point and knife edge to get passed when trying to get the knife in or out of your pocket. It actually nicked me good the other day as I was trying to put the knife in my front right pocket while getting the pocket clip outside the pocket to secure it. Never had that happen with any of my other Kershaw's, and I have several. Very disappointed, because in ever other way it is the quality I have come to expect. Needless to say it's not my EDC anymore...
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2016This little blade is perfect for my EDC collection. Have carried it a lot in the past few months and it has performed great. Came sharp and deploys very quickly. Just enough handle for a 31/2 finger grip but feels very comfortable. Slim profile makes the knife disappear in the pocket. Plenty of bang for your buck.
