Attractive knife has serious feel, but mine seemed slightly used? Belt clip off center?

- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2013Wear a good belt if you plan on pocket carrying this beast. It is one chunk of a folder. It may be heavy, but this is a quality knife that you just don't want to put down. And all the while you're holding this one you'll be smiling that smile of pride. Stab through a car door, smash bricks, carve, whittle, or make tender and even baton with it if needed. This knife is built tough and opens like a breeze. You could easily use it as an effective striking weapon in the closed position, or throw it to take out a Prius in a pinch. If you're into tough built knives, this one won't disappoint. The frame lock is sturdy and the gimping is properly placed to make a medium to large hand feel right at home and in control. I would recommend.
Update: Sorry for the delay in updating this review, but it has been an ongoing and prolonged series of events, and since I have a sizable collection, it was a while before I actually took the time to play around with this knife and closely inspect it. When I did, I noticed a problem. First, I realized the lock on my knife was failing with minimum pressure. So I sent it back for a replacement.
Amazon/Blade Shop were quick to send me a replacement. Again, same as the first time I put the replacement away thinking all was fine. When I finally got around to taking it out and inspecting it, I noticed that the 301 blade was quickly moving off center starting almost immediately. I tried adjusting until it was centered, but there wasn't enough adjustment even when tightened all the way, to get it centered. So, once again, I reluctantly contacted Amazon/Blade Shop. They were kind and gracious, and the person kept up with email replies the whole way. An email was sent saying they'd send a second replacement.
After a week, the knife hadn't arrived. They told me that USPS was coming up with "Not Found". So after giving it another week and still receiving nothing, they sent out another (3rd) replacement. They just asked me to please send in the extra one if it ever arrived. By this time I felt bad for Blade Shop. After all this wasn't their fault, and now the postal service had lost a knife on top of it all. But at the same time, my respect for them was growing with the way they stepped up no matter what. They were determined to make me happy and do right by their customer. They didn't quit trying even after the lost replacement. Well, today the replacement arrived. Of all things when I took it out of the box, the darn thing was off center again! When I adjusted the pivot point enough to get it centered, it was so tight it would hardly open at all. And when it did open, the frame lock would stick to the point of needing both hands to pry it back to disengage the lock.
By this time, I felt so bad about complaining again. So I sent Blade Shop another email and told them I'd take matters straight to Schrade. I didn't want them to be hurt or loose any more on this debacle that was not their fault. After all that the Blade Shop had done I just sent back the knife I'd had and then called Schrade/TaylorBrandsLLC directly. The woman at Schrade said they'd send another one out to me on Monday. Meanwhile, Blade Shop sent yet another email saying to send both back for a full refund. This company deserves mad props for their dogged determination to satisfy their customer, even under a very trying set of circumstances to say the least.
Hopefully, I'll finally get a proper working specimen this time, since Schrade says they haven't been having trouble with the SCH301. I didn't want a refund, so much as just a working knife to add to my Schrade collection. I have had nothing but great experiences with Amazon, The Blade Shop and Schrade. Special props to Blade Shop. I would highly recommend them to anyone, for their REAL customer service, their unfailing attitude of making the customer happy and for doing the right thing. They really went over and above! As odd as it sounds, sometimes it takes a bad experience to shed light on the integrity of a company. Any company can handle smooth transactions, but it takes an extraordinary one to step up when the going gets this tough! Thanks Amazon, Blade Shop and Schrade/TaylorBrands LLC.
I will leave it 5 stars for now, even though the knives left something to be desired. But after I receive the next replacement from Schrade, I'll come back and follow up here again.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2017This knife is the epitome of sturdy. It's almost like carrying a folding hammer with an edge on it. It's slightly handle heavy, balance wise. Mine came reasonably sharp, centered, seems made well. About 25-30% lock up to start with, and seems consistent. I'd venture to say that the flipper tab is more of a hand guard, since it simply will not flip open fully. At least mine doesn't. This knife lacks any sort of grace, but makes up for that in an orc-like brutal sort of beauty. I'm fully confident in the sturdy construction of this knife that it won't fail. Sure, the blade's steel isn't top tier. But it'll take an edge and hold it well for the majority of tasks the average user comes up with. Plus it'll sharpen up easily too. The handles have a good chamfer & radius to them. They're not ergonomic per say, but it's as comfortable as you would expect a steel 2x4 should be.
Overall, it is absurd and ridiculous how heavy this thing is. People will slowly start to gravitate towards you due to it's dense weight. But that's it's charm and exactly what I was looking for - something hugely overbuilt to tackle the concrete cheesecake I occasionally dine on.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2021I'm not sure if I'm misinterpreting some sort of wear created during the manufacturing process but it's only really prevalent on one side, as if some dude wore this around, hanging outside his pocket for a few weeks. The belt clip is screwed in with the tip pointing too close to the center, (compared to the product photo). Not sure if that's a defect. I've had problems in the past with Amazon sending "New" items that look slightly used. Not sure if they're repackaging returns after a quick inspection and labeling them as new after some other customer has had that item in their possession for a month or what. I'd like to apply my own person wear and tear if you don't mind, especially if I'm paying for an item listed as new. (It seems), the blade itself is in good condition and hasn't been used to cut anything. Other than these details I noticed, it seems like this is a great knife. Very sturdy, heavy-duty construction. I was unprepared for how heavy it would be, it's possible I missed that info in the reviews and didn't see the weight listed. The heaviness isn't a problem, it gives the knife a real serious feel, but you'd probably want to wear jeans and belt if you need to keep it in your pocket. The grip, (for my somewhat large hand), feels excellent, as if it was custom tailored to my hand. I've bought Schrade products before so they haven't failed me in the past. I like there stuff. Will update after I figure out what's going on.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2017I'm not really a knife guy, but a few years ago, I started to carry a pocket knife to have on hand for boxes, letters, and other everyday cutting tasks.
I usually carry a Spyderco Tenacious (a darn-near bulletproof, very light knife which I got on Amazon for around $45) and love it.
I was just looking around on Amazon and some EDC stuff and came across these knives. I liked the look of the blade, never having owned a tanto style before. I knew that the knife was heavy, and that appealed to me- I need a carry knife for my Jeep and couldn't think of a better, sturdier knife than this one.
For the price, you can't beat it. Yes, the blade steel isn't the best, and seems to dull rather rapidly. But honestly, for occasional use, which is likely to be harsh, I couldn't think of a better tool to have on hand.
If you're on the fence, go for it!
