Joining the SF2 craze was a little known Gameboy fighting game called Raging Fighter by Konami. It actually has a pretty challenging and is a fun portable fighting game. There is 7 characters to choose from and like SF2 their are 2 characters that share the same move sets like Ryu and Ken. The computer AI is pretty ruthless in the game and you have to learn fast or end up getting your butt kicked. The game even has a lady fighter very similar to Chun Lee of SF2 that does a spin kick and a big bull character like Balrog/E. Honda.
The throw moves in this game are pretty cool and once you beat the game without losing a round on the highest setting you get to hear some really cool music and receive the best ending sequence as a reward as the credits roll. Having multiple endings also enhanced the replay value to the game.
The developers took their time with the game and it shows everything seems well done. The speed of the game is quick and the rounds go fast until the last hit which the game slows down to slow motion to see the loser of a round fall on their face.
The game definitely plays like your traditional SF game best of 2 out of 3 rounds. I believe the game had 3 or 4 different stage backgrounds which is a nice variety on the Gameboy console. The characters are a little bit small but have a lot of short range and long range moves.
This game is not for beginners to the fighting game genre or younger players. They will easily become frustrated because the computer shows no mercy all the characters are pretty hard to beat. But on the flip side that is what makes the game worth playing and enhances the replay value. I think this came out in 1992 and for that time period this game is a fast paced portable fighting game. I would rate this a high 3 1/2 to 4 stars but once again not for younger players not because of the violence but the AI from the computer.
