I bought this pair for a 4 day back country skiing trip in Yellowstone NP, and have used them for the trip as well as many snowshoeing trips in MT. I am very happy with my purchase.

Before I owned this pair, I had always used the insulated Swix XC skiing gloves for snowshoeing, but my fingers were always cold. With these mitts, I have never had cold fingers. The skiing trip in Yellowstone was day long, temperature in the teens, my hands remained warm and dry. In fact, I have never needed to use the outer layer because the red insulated liner is sufficient to block out the wind and cold. Another woman in the trip also has the Alti but with the five finger liner. She is also extremely happy with hers. My husband has the Meteor mitts, they are not as warm as the Alti, also they get wet after sometime.

Dexterity: Without wearing the out layer, I can drive, adjust pole length, and even take pictures. But the out layer would reduce the dexterity significantly.

Size: I normally wear size M for biking, skiing gloves, and M always fits my hands perfectly. However, the Alti Mitts run very large. Even the small is still half inch too long/wide for my hands. But I guess that the extra room allow my fingers to move around and keep them warm.

All in all, I am very happy with the mitts, and would highly recommend them to anybody looking for a very warm and comfortable mitts.

I wanted a very warm mitten for very cold days when I am cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. My fingers have always been my "weak link." One great feature of these mitts is that the inner mitt can be used alone, providing a different level of warmth as temperatures rise. I always wear a women's size M in gloves and mittens but will note that these are a little big - except for the thumb. So I'm afraid the size S would be too small but I wish the M was slightly smaller (shorter) in the main part.

As someone who suffers from Raynauds these gloves have been awesome for me on some really cold winter hikes in the mountains. I wish they came in an XS as the S is a little on the big side. I only use the two gloves together in really extreme situations like on a very cold summit. Typically I wear the outside glove on its own or with another thin liner that I purchased separately. But I always bring the warm liner with me in case I need it. The only downside is zero dexterity when wearing both gloves together but that's the sacrifice for being warm.

These are super warm. Actually, they can be too warm if using for hiking on a moderately cold but not mags-cold day. I love that they layer and work week separately as well as in tandem. I have another pair of OR mitts & I mix and match based on conditions. I got them for a great price (thank you Amazon) but they are definitely worth full price, if you must. OR makes excellent products.

I have been a skiier since I was 5 years old...so about 27 years. My hands are alwayssss cold. These took care of that. My two roommates (a male and female) each had a pair and I finally decided last winter to buy these. Never looking back! Don't even need handwarmers anymore.

I wanted behemoth warm mittens... And I got behemoth warm mittens. Finger dexterity is not part of that package, but I didn't expect it to be. I was happy to find that the inside of the glove and the puffy liners are both red, so I could sharpie my name into them (it would suck to lose these gloves)

I like to ski, and I especially like to ski in storms, high winds, whiteouts, and bitter cold. After all, that's when Rocky Mountain snow is the freshest, and when normal, sensible people are safe at home being grateful for the roof over their heads. There are only a few months when it's so cold that I need chemical handwarmers in my winter gloves, but as the years wear on and my skiing gets less bold, I'm getting more sensitive to the cold. I tried on a number of other super-warm mittens locally, including the Black Diamond Mercury Mitt and Maia Mitts, and while many were warm, they either fit strangely or were so bulky it was impossible to do anything requiring any dexterity. The Alti's were the last chance for a super-warm mitt, so I took the plunge. As soon as they arrived I tore the package open and put them on, and my hands were hot within a few minutes, so I threw them in my boot bag to test them out.

When it came time to ski again I bundled up and grabbed my poles and skis, but when I put my skis on the ground and one rolled on its side, I had to fumble just to turn it flat. Then I realized my jacket pocket was still unzipped, so I tried my best to grab the extra long zipper pull, but it took forever. I could hardly feel my poles, to say nothing of keeping them in the right position to keep as much of the glove material in contact with the rubber grips so as to make holding them easier. Fortunately I'd left my old gloves and a few chemical hand warmers in the heated boot bag. The return was easy-peasy: Mountain Gear provided free return shipping (the original shipping was free too) and a fast full refund, no questions asked.

I do think the mitts fit as well as possible; my fingers came near the ends of the mitten without compressing the insulation, and the wrists were snug but not tight. But because of their construction I couldn't reliably grasp even large objects. Maybe this kind of mitten needs pre-curved construction so the material won't slide over your fingers as you try to use them, or maybe it's just the shape of my hands. All I know is that I was sad that these are not the mittens for me.

The next thing I'll try is Hestra Heli gloves or mittens because they get rave reviews from many online ski forum friends. Like the Alti mitts, Hestra can be pricey unless you find a deal, but they're said to be warm and very easy to use for basic clothing adjustment and dealing with technical gear. I haven't tried the Helis on, but I've seen other Hestra gloves, and their construction and materials are excellent and their products are designed for regular use. I'll also keep my eye out for a lightly lined shell mitten to wear over gloves when the wind really starts biting.

The bottom line is the the O.R. Alti Mitts are very solidly constructed, with excellent materials and warmth, but I can only give them three stars because for my purposes, these won't even handle the minimal dexterity I need in order to be able to keep them on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally mittens that work at minus 34.
Reviewed in Canada on February 24, 2023
These mittens are awesome! I have Raynaund’s disease and walk my dog every day. I have tried almost every Mitten on the market and my fingertips always freeze and later are very painful and burning when it is minus 20 plus. I wore these mittens in minus 34 yesterday and my fingers were toasty warm. These mittens have two layers and I can even fit my merino wool liners underneath should the temperature drop even further. A Fantastic product.

Venditore affidabile e spedizione velocissima.

2.0 out of 5 stars Item ships from Germany
Reviewed in Canada on October 15, 2020
It should be made clear, despite the $50 shipping fee, that the item shipped from Germany via UPS. That means additional broker/customs fees that will drive up the cost to a considerable degree.
