This hitch fit my 2012 X5 35i perfectly. I did need to trim the bumper fascia to fit though. I simply dremeled a 8.5" x 2.75" rectangle in it and it slid right over the hitch. It looks outstanding from the road and not bad even when you look up at it from underneath. I thought the plastic chrome cover was cheesy, so I didn't use it. It may suit someone else's taste, but I was glad it wasn't a necessary component. Fast shipping and easy install. I'm very happy!

I installed this hitch to hold a bike rack, not pull a trailer. For that purpose, it works just fine. Installation requires many steps and took me a few hours, but it wasn't terribly hard. There's a video online (just do a search) showing the process step-by-step, and that gave me the confidence to do the job. The hitch does come with directions, but they were not as clear as the video. (They do have the torque specs you'll need, though.) The end result looks fine. Nobody would mistake this for a factory installation, but then the original BMW hitch costs hundreds more and only looks a little better.

Very solid tow hitch. I installed it in a few hours. Fit perfectly on my 2013 X5.
I highly recommend it. I used it a few days later to tow some ATVs.
Be careful taking off the old bumper to avoid cracking it. I also put a blanket under the bumper at the last step in case it fell. It's difficult to support and remove, so good to have a second person helping at that stage.
There are some good videos showing how to remove the bumper and install the hitch.

Install took a little over an hour. I'm meticulously when it comes to adding or customizing my X5 and this receiver was a perfect fit. Very little trimming of the under side of the bumper cover is all that was needed and no integrity was sacrificed. It drops the receiver pretty low to the ground but I use an andersen aluminum adjustable hitch and it looks as good as it works. I haul my 4000lb boat and a flat bed utility trailer periodically. This receiver turned my race car/suv into one bad ass little truck!
