Bigger than it looks
Photo is of Lumina 750 next to this light. No biggie, I bought it for the long battery life on flash mode. Of course it has to be big enough to hold 2 AA batteries so, my bad. 4 stars because it included leaky batteries which I guess isn't technically related to the quality of the light, but it does cut into the value by costing me a set of batteries from the start.

I consider the Mako 100 a useful and inexpensive daytime strobing device for your bicycle. It strobes as well as my $100 Cygolite
and don't underestimate how effective a strobe works during the day. I find people stop for me all the time now when I take a left
hand turn and walkers are always raving to me how great it is to be warned a cyclist coming from so far away. I am sure it has the
ability to interrupt a texting driver who sees the flash in their eyes. Once you do a ride with a powerful strobe on your bike, you won't want to ride w/o it, unless your personal safety is of no concern you. On the night side, this light is weak and is not recommended for nigh time riding other that it helps you be seen. The Mako 200 is much better for night time use and meets a minimum standard for night time riding. The use of 2 AA batteries has many advantages such as easy to keep spares on you and
available everywhere. You can convert to NiMH batteries if you want but the unit supposedly goes 180 hours on flash which
is amazing if it is only half that. At that rate, just toss a new set of AA's in as needed and you won't be spending much on batteries. Thus, the Mako 100 is a great strobing unit that ALL BICYCLISTS should have on their bike but it is not adequate for real night time riding.

in terms of a flashlight this light is super bright for what i need. i can see a good distance in front of me and i have no doubts that this think is good for others to see me. the mount is kind of iffy and i could see where problems may occur with it but i havent used it too much yet so i dont know. i give it 4 stars do to the mount but the light itself is so bright.

When my second Cat Eye LED headlight stopped working because of another switch failure, I decided to take that as a sign to switch, and I wish I had bought this light from the start. In every way it is MUCH better than the Cat Eye. It is an extremely bright light that is easy to direct, does NOT change its position going over bumps (I ride on the road, not on trails), and is still running on its first set of batteries after a couple of months of daily use. I like being able to use the bright light at night and the flashing light at dawn, dusk and in the rain, when I want drivers to notice me. It seems well protected from the rain, and the switch shows whether the light is on or off. Compared to the Cat Eye, which produced a ring of light that was highly focused (but not nearly as bright as the NiteRider Mako 100), this gives enough light outside the focused beam that signs are reflected and cars can see you. I'm not sure why one would want the dimmer beam available in the middle position, but I suppose it is nice to know that it is available if you were in a group of riders, for example, and didn't wan't to shine a very bright beam on those in front. The attachment of the lamp to the handlebars does not require (use) tools other than your hand, which is both a plus or minus. I suspect that those who complained that the lamp moved had just not tightened it enough. I'm not a strong guy, but I did clamp it as well as I could, and it hasn't moved. All in all, this is a GREAT product.

If mounted anyway near the bike computer/odometer, it interferes with the bike's wireless computer/odometer. I understand this is a common problem for lights that are not shielded for interference. only option was to mount light near drops and that was unacceptable. the result = buying a new lights with EMC suppression

The original batteries provided on the Mako 100 leaked; then when I tried to replace them the Mako bike light would not cycle to the off position....this product is completely worthless. I would no recommend this light to any serious bike rider.

This light allows me to ride at pre-dawn, with no problems. I can clearly see the road ahead of me, and it has helped me avoid glass and other debris. It comes with two batteries, which is practical. I use this on my road bike, which uses standard handlebars (not oversized), and had no problem installing the handlebar mount. Easy to use, and gets the job done, keeping me safe. I recommend it.
