About 11 years ago a friend of mine purchased some towels from Shabby Chic in Santa Monica, California while on vacation. I used my friend's towel while staying with her and fell in love with these towels. They are unique with rounded corners and no funky binding which is on almost all towels - that binding that always shrinks in the dryer and makes your towels look weirdly wavy instead of laying flat. Also, the loops on these towels are big, bigger than any normal store bought terry towels I've ever used. They are super absorbent and yet very soft.. I have been searching for these towels for a year and finally found them here on Amazon. Shabby Chic no longer carries these towels so the only information I had to go on was the tag on my friend's towel: "Made in Portugal" and "100% Egyptian Cotton". I guess that was enough because using only these peculiar set of parameters I found the towels here on Amazon. I was worried they wouldn't be the same because I couldn't find a full photo of the towels anywhere (Seller, a little help here please!). After a long pause over the price, I took a chance and ordered them...yes these are probably the most expensive towels you can buy, but I had a gift certificate so I took the splurge. BEST TOWELS EVER!!! They look amazing, they feel amazing, they perform amazing. These are the kind of towels which you would consider heirloom quality...you'll want to pass them down to the next generation for sure. I'm saving up for the hand towels next and hope to build my supply of these towels every Christmas (with gift cards) until I have a decent supply. My friend's towels, though 11 years old, look new. Hers are white and still perfectly beautiful. She uses Mrs. Meyers to wash them and hangs them on the line in her back yard to dry. I'm going to invest in the Linen Soap this company sells to make sure my towels last forever. I couldn't be happier with my purchase...really a shame that Rachel Ashwell discontinued them in her store. I think hers were a couple of inches wider, but thank God we can rely on Amazon!!!
