    I have been a fan of his music since I performed it (probably more for my benefit than those who had to listen to me) in high school. I enjoyed the symphonies conducted by his son, a nice touch. One minor criticism is that the vol level seemed to vary from recording to recording as they were performed by different orchestras at different times (I mostly listened to this while driving).

    Overall a good buy and great music.

    This is clearly the best choice for these selected works by Shostakovich. His great symphonies conducted by great Soviet conductors. Fine recording and gracious, completely adequate and most solid performances. Just as good as it gets, so no need to look any further.

    El producto contiene en una caja las seis sinfonias que pueden catalogarse de imprescindibles, no obstante se podría incluir algunas otras, 11 y 12 por ejemplo, dirigidas por batutas de renombre de la antigua URSS y período posterior. Grabadas en diferentes épocas y orquestas entre 1962 la nº 7 por K.Ivanov y 1996 la nº 4 por R.Barshai, pasando por la nº 5 y nº 10 a cargo del hijo del compositor, Maxim Shostakovich ,grabadas en el 1990, la nº 8 por Y.Mravinsky en el 1982 y finalmente la nº 15 en 1974 a cargo de K.Kondrashin. Se complementa el conjunto con el concierto para violín nº 2 a cargo del gran David Oistrakh y unos extractos de la música para la película "The Gadfly".
    La calidad de grabación es admirable a través del remasterizado a cargo de Paul Arden Taylor y a partir de grabaciones de antiguas discográficas. Muy buen trabajo a pesar de los años de algunas de estas grabaciones. La caja incluye un libreto informativo sólo en inglés y el conjunto de los seis cd's cada uno dentro de un sobre con carátula de plástico.
    Producto totalmente recomendable, tanto para los ya iniciados en Shostakovich como para aquellos que se quieran adentrar en lo más jugoso de su obra sinfónica.
