- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2016Awesome sound quality and the glowing X on the side of the headset looks really cool. They look and feel high quality and sound amazing. Is not very good at blocking outside sounds but it is not too big of an issue. Very comfortable to wear for hours at a time and the mic quality is fairly good for how small and simple it seems. Very simple and easy to use controls however I am not too sure as to why there is a USB power plug for the headset. The headset sounds just the same when plugged in only on the headphone jack however the red x only glows when plugged into the USB plug.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2022Style: Portable Analog Gaming HeadsetVerified PurchaseFirst off, I love Creative products. They're my go to every time when it comes to quality sounding cost-effective audio equipment. This is my first gaming headset from Creative. I've had this one for several months now and I can say a few things that have gone wrong since. First, the removable microphone is awesome and lovely as a feature in theory, however for some reason if the microphone is moved away from your mouth (as it is bendable for such reasons) it seems to loose a full contact connection and stop functioning until adjusted. This gets extremely annoying. Second, the cable is braided, which usually is a good thing but in this case it's not. I've never once wrapped/warped this cable since opening the product, yet it still warps/spins/knots ALL on it's own constantly and it seems no matter what I do it always does this, shortening the length of the cable and causing discomfort. This makes me which I had gone with a wireless headset just because of this alone. As far as sound quality, it is fairly good, however I had to tweak several settings in the provided software to get my desired sound. The default sound is lacking, flat, and does not have a lot of bass or volume boost initially. That's okay, they can be tweaked. Altogether, I still like this product but I wish that I just purchased the newer version of it instead of cheaping out, because I feel like the newer versions may have fixed some of these undesirable issues. As far as the durability, the earmuffs have not split/torn/cracked/eroded away yet so that is a good sign in my opinion.
I'd say it's worth the buy if you're getting a really good price and you don't mind configuring some things yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2017Style: Portable Analog Gaming HeadsetVerified PurchaseYou can have the most delicious steak dinner in the world, and it means nothing if it's ruined by a bird on the rafter overhead crapping on your plate. Such is the case with these headphones. They sound great, they're comfortable, the mic is clear, good for both games and music, etc. I didn't notice the 7.1 sound too strongly, but otherwise I was extremely satisfied. Unfortunately, there are a couple of fatal design flaws.
First, the the headphone jack into the phones is not detachable. Also, the connector is hard plastic not rubber, so there's no flexibility. This means the cord itself must take any force imparted between the cable and phones. Where might such force come from? That's my second design flaw.
Second, the bulky USB controller is hardwired to the headphone cable only 18 or so inches from the headphones themselves. The result is that any time you pick up the headphones to put them on invariably that controller is smashing into speakers, desks, chairs, etc. This puts stress on that 18 inches of cable at both ends. The sound started getting crackly about 8 months after I got them, and know it's almost unlistenable. Unfortunately, I'm just out of warrantee, so I can't get it fixed (not that I expect the issue not to reoccur).
It's a shame, these are otherwise good headphones, and an excellent value now that they're down to $50.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2016The Sound Blaster X H7's are my first pair of gaming headsets. So I don't have anything to compare them to. I use these with my Xbox One and Alienware 15 laptop. I bought these because I wanted great 7.1 surround sound and these were better priced then other options I was considering.
Xbox One - I use these with the "ASTRO Gaming MixAmp Pro TR for Xbox One - White" I picked the Asto amp over the Creative Lab G5 amp because the G5 amp does not support comms for Xbox One. I was a little nervous because in order to get the 7.1 surround sound on pc or laptop, you have to use the USB cable and download the Creative Lap software. The mix amp I use does not have a USB connection (3.5mm only) nor can you download the Creative Lab software onto Xbox One. You need to use the 3.5mm cable that comes with the H7's. However, the sound and surround sound with this setup is excellent. I don't know how it compares to the surround sound on my laptop because I don't have any pc games yet that can use it. The Astro mix amp itself, gives you great sound with surround sound. The only thing I don't like is, to get a healthy sound through your headset, you have to turn the volume on the mix amp and headphones almost full blast. So just shy of max volume on both you get great sound. I've been playing The Division and it sounds incredible in surround sound.
With the Alienware 15 laptop, I downloaded the Creative Labs software, which by the way you can only get if you register your headset. Once you register your headset, they will send you a link by email. I had to ask for this from their tech support because I just could not figure out on my own where to get the free software advertised with the headset. You have to use the USB connection for 7.1 surround sound. If you use the 3.5mm connection you get just basic sound and the software goes off. The sound is really good. I don't have any games yet that fully utilizes the 7.1 surround sound. My only gripe is much like the Xbox One connection, I have to turn the volume up really high to get a healthy sound. I've been playing Wasteland 2, Unreal Tournament "Pre-Alpha" XCOM and Mirrors Edge.
The sound quality with both setups is really good. I'm really pleased with these and will not be replacing them anytime soon. My only real gripe about this is 1- Not as much Bass as I would want but just enough, and 2- having to register the headset and wait for an email to get a link to download the software. I also needed tech supports help not just to get the software, but to download it properly. Creative Labs IM Tech support was really good though. Again, these are my first gaming headset so that probably explains why I needed help.
I definitely recommend these, especially with the Xbox One Setup I have listed. I found it really hard to find a good quality 7.1 surround sound or just great sound setup with gaming headsets for Xbox One. So this is a great option that works!
p.s. These headsets are extremely comfortable! I play for several hours at a time and I tend to forget they are on my head. I don't get ear fatigue nor do they ever start to hurt. They are very very soft and comfortable. So if you are a gamer who plays for long hours and needs great sound and comfort, these are for you!
Also, I don't use voice chat so I can't speak on its quality for comms.
