Fast Deployment

Using a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure.

Secure Locking System

With two steel plates, or liners, on the inside of each handle scale, the liner locking system safely secures the blade open and prevents unwanted blade closure. The lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent closure, and angles or is bent towards the blade tang creating a bias locked position. Apply manual force to move the lockbar to the side and fold the blade back into the handle.

Additional Features

knife flippers, flip open, flip open knifes, switchblade knives, assisted opening knives

One-Handed Flipper

Knives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection.

Durable Handle

Very tough, able to take heavy-duty hard use, and versatile, glass-filled nylon handle material is a nylon synthetic polymer reinforced with glass threads for increased strength. Glass-filled nylon has incredible stiffness for a secure and stable grip, great ability to withstand heat, and dimensional stability combined with excellent wear resistance.

Kershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. A pocketclip with tip-up carry is positioned so the closed knife carries in the pocket with the tip of its blade pointed upwards. Great Knife - Buying One More!

Great Knife - Buying One More!
Great everyday carry pocket knife. Fit and finish is above my expectations for a knife at this price. I would put the 1776 Kershaw up against any comparable Benchmade or SOG I've owned. I'll buy a second in case I loose this one if ever the price dips in a flash sale again. *To the reviewer commenting on the "backwards flag" This being the 1776 model and made in America, the reversal was inspired by the age-old practice of carrying flags into battle. When fastened to a standard, the American flag's blue-and-white portion is always closest to the pole. A flag bearer rushing into the fray, then, would naturally lead with the stars. Only the flag patches affixed to right shoulders of uniforms are reversed, so the blue field of stars faces forward. (Left shoulder patches aren't a problem, as the stars face forward without meddling.) To display it the opposite direction would indicate running away or retreating. Note the flag engraving on the handle is displayed as if the blade is pushing forward into battle.

Very happy that Kershaw is finally bringing more production back home to the USA. This knife is a fantastic start to what will hopefully become a growing line of affordable, well made, USA produced knives. The ergos on this knife are okay, not personally my favorite. The hump on the back strap of the handle makes for a semi-uncomfortable grip when held in a hammer grip. However, I feel like these days most knife companies design knives to be comfortable for a saber grip, even though you almost never use a saber grip when using a knife in everyday practice. A hammer grip is far more practical, and useful of a grip than a saber grip will ever be, but I digress...

The gray/purple-ish handle color is very attractive and eye-catching. I really love it. I also really love the aggressive looking blade shape that offers a continuous belly with slicing in mind! The blade steel (420HC) is a good compromise between quality and affordability considering it is a USA-made knife that is going to demand a higher price than it's Chinese made counterparts. The blade geometry and grind are always impeccable from Kershaw, so this doesn't even really come into question here. This knife cuts like a beast! Very slicey! The assisted opening is also fantastic, and the blade springs open with authority. Finally, the stone wash blade finish is a nice compliment to an already great looking design. I would recommend this knife any day of the week. This is essentially a ZT knife design at an everyday man's price!

Also, for those that like this knife, Kershaw just released a sneak peak of a new version of this knife to be released in the future. It's going to have red aluminum handle scales and S35VN stainless steel!

I love this damn knife. I use the Link as my EDC and keep it sharp effectively with the Smith and Wesson pocket sharpener. The handle and blade are of what appears to be good quality materials and feels extremely sturdy. The length and width of the blade are great for slicing and cutting things. It comes extremely sharp, most likely a 15 degree angle, that stayed for quite a while before needing a sharpening. The blade itself is prone to staining from water and hand oils. Water will remove the oil and leave a light mark and hands will make a dark mark. I encourage buyers to oil their knives a little to avoid staining, but it's hardly an issue. The stonewash is beautiful and the handle matte look is wonderful. The speedsafe took a bit to break in and make very quick, but once it is broken in, it's very nice. There's a satisfying click as the blade locks in that is deeper and louder than any other Kershaw I've owned. This knife is by no means deep carry which is a little annoying to me. Everyone will notice you have a knife in your pocket and will be impressed with how beautiful this knife is. Came packaged in a Kershaw box with bubble wrap, didn't have a single issue with shipping.

Pros: Very sharp, Heavier weight, Great materials, American Made, Cheap

Cons: Blade can stain, dust can collect in the handle easily, not deep carry.

The Kershaw link with aluminum handles is an amazing knife for the money! This knife has the fit and finish of a $80+ knife! If I had to rate the ergonomics of the knife I would rate it a B. There is no jimping on the knife, the aluminum doesn't have the same grip as something like G10 and the handle will be small if you have extra large hands. I find the ergonomics to be good enough for an EDC knife and the knife makes up in other ways.

The pocket clip looks great and secretly holds the knife in place. The blade style and geometry is great for cutting and slicing things. I always love Kershaw's assisted opening and this knife is no exception, the blade flies out of the handle. The weight of the knife is great for EDC because it's under 5 ounces. I get compliments all the time on how "cool' the knife looks. The knife is made in the USA! All in all, I would recommend this knife for and EDC role because of the quality and craftsmanship the knife!

For a sub-$40 made-in-usa knife, this far exceeded my expectations. The fit and finish of the knife is outstanding, and right out of the box you can tell its got a nice weight and heft to it, without being bulky or cumbersome. The handle is good and stiff, unlike my old Gerber, which had a lot of flex in the handle. The initial quality and feel of this knife is second to none.

The blade itself is great, it was very sharp out of the box, and the thicker spine makes the blade and tip very stiff. I was curious to try the tanto version of this knife, since a tanto knife typically has a stiffer blade and stronger point. I am glad I didn't as this blade shape is more versatile overall, and the blade/point is plenty strong.

I appreciate that Kershaw can make a really well made knife in the US at the ~$40 price point. There are many small volume artisinal knife makers out there now, but you will pay $200+ for a knife of comparable quality. I like to buy US made when I can since I work for a small US based manufacturer. I'd imagine the folks at Kershaw making these knives make about what I do, so its encouraging there is a US manufacturer putting out a high-quality product that it's own workers can afford and enjoy.
