EDIT: After heavy use and many year she still holds strong.
A lot of the waterproof lining has shown wear but the overall bag is still in great shape. I have taken it everywhere, competitions, school, work and volunteering events. I do need to send it back to get it polished up, relined and such and I'm shopping around for a new backpack so I can send this one back.

    Original:
This backpack is well made. It's country of manufacture is China, though probably designed here.

Let me first comment about the laptop sleeve. It is opened through a side pocket. You unzip it, it opens slide it in.
It can fit a Macbook Pro Retina easily. Though, if you have a neoprene sleeve for that,(mine is this Caselogic PAS-215 15-Inch Macbook Neoprene Sleeve (Black))You will need to recognize that the sleeve will accommodate for it. The opening is smaller than the chamber that containts the laptop, by about half an inch. It's actually very smart of them to do that, though, it takes some fiddling to recognize how to easily slide it in and out.

For me, I had to slide it in at an angle from the bottom, so the laptop made it into the top part, where the chamber is cut off from the sleeve( The bottom is level with where the zipper ends, the top, the zipper ends before the full length of the chamber) The sleeve is a bit skimpy on padding for me, so the neoprene sleeve helped a lot in making me feel more comfortable about it.

The backpack has a very nice form factor, it's built to hug you. I had a sling backpack, so the transition and feel wasn't too different, except fort eh fact that it's a normal backpack, no clip to detach the strap, but in terms of how I'm free to move about, it's very nice.

You can fit quite a lot of things inside as well, it's very spacious. You can probably shove 4 textbooks inside of it.

I'll review this later on as the year go on, and see how long this backpack lasts, probably longer than my laptop!

Arrived today. The box was so light I thought, uh oh....but we opened it, and the knapsack is truly extremely light! My college son carries a ton of stuff all the time and has always had knapsacks that are rather heavy to begin with. But with almost no added weight from the knapsack, I already feel better about his back! It has a very roomy front section, one big area, which he loves for his books and whatnot. He hates a ton of pockets and bother. The laptop sleep is on the side, and I think it will fit his 15". On top is another zipper and it the pocket goes deep so it will be good for a cell phone, adapters, whatever. Good sized pouch. There is a front pocket as well. It looked small when he first opened the bag, but it grew and grew. It is all black which is what he wanted as well, just plain black, no color, no nothing. The back of the bag is grey but that goes against his back and he was ok with that. So, to sum up, from an extremely picky kid, he was happy with the size, weight, color, design and large open area inside. Good price too. This is a winner in our books!

I bought the JanSport Wasabi to replace an old Ogio backpack I'd had for about four years (the bottom of the pack had large holes in it from wear, and items were starting to fall out).
Unfortunately, after about 1.5 - 2 months of use the left shoulder strap tore free from the base of the backpack. So I printed out JanSport's warranty form from their website and sent it in to the service center. About a week later I got an email confirming that they had received it. After another two weeks (during which I used my old backpack) I received the repaired backpack.

    - UPDATE -
Two months later, and so far it hasn't shown any signs of the straps tearing out again, so I figure the first time might have just been bad luck.

    - UPDATE 2 -
It's been a year since JanSport repaired my backpack, and it's still going strong. There are no signs of the strap tearing like last time, so I assume that it was just a manufacturing defect.

Other than the early problem it's been a great backpack. It can store a good number of textbooks and such, and the middle pocket works well at storing a 13" ultrabook (Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro).

My son had this bag in 3rd grade and it lasted him until 9th grade! I only bought him a new one for grade 10 because he somehow scuffed his old one and it didn't come clean in the wash. Great quality.
