I take packs of dogs off leash hiking on trails around the Salt Lake valley every day. When you have a pack of 5-8 dogs swarming your legs while hiking, you end up with LOTS of debris in your boots/shoes. I have heavy duty gaiters for winter hiking, but for summer and my trail running shoes, I wanted something lower profile and cooler. These work perfectly with my Salomon XA Wild trail running shoes. Whatever shoe you have, they definitely need to have at least a minimal indentation under the arch so the silicone band that goes underneath won't snag on everything and high center your feet. These are also best suited for mid to low shoes and not full height hiking boots. Also these have a hard time stretching over trail running shoes that have really thick EVA foam soles like Hoka One Ones. These have kept every last bit of trail dust and pebbles and sticks and mud out of my shoes while hiking with the dogs. I recommend these for hiking or trail running in dry conditions only as water will stretch them out and make them sag. I wear size 8.5 shoes and the size 4.5-7 works well for me. I can definitely recommend for the right shoes and the right conditions!

Got these to keep grit and sand from getting into my running shoes. They work like a dream. I run on dry mountain trails and was forever getting annoying bits of rock and stuff in my shoes. Absolutely fixed this problem. They don't sag down, and remained in place perfectly. I can even feel the change in the added insulation around my foot, which feels good. Another small thing is that they are snug enough to give a bit more of a feel to my ankle and foot which seems to be reassuring in terms of running on uneven terrain. My shoe is a Salomon Speedcross 4 size 12.5. I got the large gaiter, and the fit overall very well. I am not sure about the hard rubber strap that goes under the shoe yet. I am concerned it will be the first thing to wear out, but the first 6 miles shows no wear yet.

I wear these almost year ‘round with low top work boots for farming. Whether I’m walking through crop stubble, tall grass pasture, cow lots or gravel driveways, these gaiters keep small debris out of my boots. The only debris they won’t keep out is corn or soybeans when I’m walking around in piles of grain, a minor issue given their overall performance and reliability. I wore my first pair for two years before replacing them. I agree that these run big, a large was almost too big for size 13 work boots, which I had to remedy by pulling the gaiters over the front of my boots instead of the rear. I’ve not had any problems with them slipping off, though my soles have a good heal on them, which provides a decent notch for the bottom band to grab on to.

If you're gonna be walking, running, or crawling through mud this is the perfect product. Bought this for the Tough Mudder and it kept out all the mud and rocks. I bought a size down from what's listed (medium), and I put them on backwards according to the pictures included. If you need to keep stuff out of your shoes these are perfect. Will not keep water out, but if you're doing a Tough Mudder or an OCR, that's to be expected.

I ordered these gaiters fully expecting to not be impressed. Well, these things rock! My trail shoes aren’t Gore Tex but with these gaiters my feet have stayed 90% dryer on my trail runs. Since getting these in the mail, all my runs have been in mud or snow. The gaiters sit perfectly snug on my Salmon trail shoes and have never budged. Other reviewers complained that the gaiters needed to be worn only with shoes that had a heel. Not sure why they had issues. I snug these on, there is elasticity in the material, so I can stretch them far enough that they cover where they need to and then they stay put. But maybe I haven’t experienced fitting issues because I paired Salomon gaiters with Salomon trail shoes. I included a picture of what my shoe looks like without the gaiter so you can see that my shoe doesn’t have a heel on it. I wear a women’s 6.5 and ordered size small gaiters.
So if you have Salomon’s running shoes then I absolutely recommend these gaiters for trail runners, especially if you have a dog running buddy kicking debris into your shoes.

Top line: Not made for trail runners; probably fine for boots. Solid performance if you find the right size.

Good: These gaiters do a fine job of keeping the big rocks out, even if sizing it a little off. Durability through 75+ miles of hiking and trail running seems okay.

Bad: Fit loosely--be sure to size down from the recommendation unless you are wearing extremely bulky boots. Even then, the bottom is a little loose, which probably isn't an issue for boots. When moving at speed (running), the strap may get caught on larger rocks causing the gaiter to shift or pull.

Other: These gaiters work much better with high-arched boots than flat-soled running shoes due to the strap that goes underneath the sole. If you're using a low drop running shoe, you be better served with velcro/clip style.

These were purchased for a Tough Mudder race and performed as expected. My shoes stayed on my feet and I didn't get any rocks in my shoes. There was smaller sediment in my socks and shoes at the end of my race but nothing that caused skin irritation. I strongly recommend these.

    Pros:
    - Easy to put on and remove
    - Helps to keep shoes on your feet when walking through water and muddy areas
    - Keeps pebbles and larger sediment out of shoes and socks

    Cons:
    - can rub on the ankles if not positioned properly beforehand. Finding the proper position before walking through muddy areas is a good idea.
