  • The MS-OPS2 can be wired to multiple lights, as long as the maximum wattage does not exceed the 2 amp rating. You will not be able to individually control each of the lights, they will all be controlled at the same time from this sensor.

  • The Maestro Sensor Switch can connect to either your neutral or ground wire but it does require one of those two connections.

  • Changing the Auto-Off time on the Maestro Motion Sensor simply requires pressing and holding the on/off button and waiting for a corresponding number of flashes on the sensor lens. You can review the user manual sheet to see the different options.

  • Lutron Sensor Switch XCT sensing technology detects fine motion, such as typing at a desk or reading, ensuring lights do not turn off inadvertently.

  • Yes, Lutron sensors will retain their programming in the event of a power outage.

Lutron Maestro LED+ Motion
5 out of 5 stars
Lutron Maestro LED+ Motion
Let me start by saying that I am a big believer in the Lutron products. I am in no way connected or in communication with Lutron but I wanted to share my experience with others in hopes that will lead them to one direction or the other. I purchased my home a couple years ago and in doing so, I have replaced EVERY switch and outlet on the property. After purchasing new modern but basic switches and outlets, I later found myself wanting to turn my house into a “smart home” that I can remotely control and monitor. Now this switch is motion and doesn’t connect to the network, however, my joy started with a product that is connected to the network. I started with my first product on a Lutron starter kit to include the smart hub. Because of this, I have replaced almost every switch with a Lutron product. My favorite is this exact Maestro LED+ motion switch! I now have over 15 Maestro LED+ motion switches and over 15 other Lutron products in my house. Best part is enjoying this switch so much that when going to another location you realize just how awesome this switch is. They are great in bathrooms, closets, hallways, etc…even in your garage! They do get pricey if looking for a complete renovation but changing a switch here and there will make a great addition to your location.

When i replaced all my floodlights with led bulbs, I also replaced my manual dimmers with these.
They work great and can be programmed as to which intensity to turn on at, they also learn how low the ambient light needs to be in order to turn on (Depending on the setting).
Also, there is an advances setting mode, found that in a separate manual. That allows you to lock the switch at a given preset, so even if you change the light level, after turning off and on, you're back to the preset level. This is useful for example in a hallway by the bedrooms were i set the preset at the lowest level so we don't get blasted by light at night.
So, while the positives are obvious from a quick look at the manual, here are a couple gotchas:

    - These dimmers work in a three way setup, but only with a companion dimmer that does not have a sensor. So if you want a motion sensor at the base of your stairs and a motion sensor at the top of your stairs, this will not work, kind of a shame. At least with the companion dimmer you can control dimming from both ends of the stairwell and turn the light on/off with the button
    - You can use this in a three way setup with a regular siwtch (just have to change a setting so it knows you're using a regular switch)
    - the motion sensitivity setting only has high and low - basically, high is not high enough and low is not low enough. Wish it would have a broader adjustment range

My only major issue with these switches is that I have not found out a way to force these to stay on - basically without any movement, the light will go off after the timeout. Yes, you can go in the settings, follow some steps, and disable the motion sensor but that pretty much defeats the purpose of buying a dimmer with a motion sensor. I wish that i could hold the up button and turn the light on and then it would stay on until i press the button. About the same goes for off. If you want the light to stay off while you're in the room, you can pull the bottom service switch, but that's hokey. The way the sensor works is, after you turn off the light, it waits for the movement to stop and then 20 more seconds. but if you're sitting still for 30 seconds, then your next motion will turn on the light. Most other motion activated switches have a manual switch, that would have been an option too.

So, while the ability to force the switch to stay on would have been nice, we really like the switches overall. They work very well and we have them all over our house.

I purchased this for use in our kitchen's breakfast nook to allow adjusting the brightness and for shutting off the lines when everybody had left the table.

Installation was fairly straightforward and it took all of 30 minutes to swap the switch and configure it to my liking.

The only thing that stumped me for a moment was the green ground wire coming off the frame, and what I thought was also a green ground screw. A quick consult of the directions declared that the screw was actually blue (still looks more green to me) and it was only needed if wiring with multiple switches.

I see folks complaining that their LED's flicker with this switch. They need to make sure that the LEDs are actually dimmable. While the switch works with LEDs, the bulbs ALSO have to be dimmable. If the bulb drivers are not designed to be dimmable they will flicker.

I also see folks complaining that it is hard to configure. There are four settings you can set, each with no more than four choices to select with each. You only have to set the ones you want to change from the defaults.

For those on the West Coast, this switch meets California Title 24 building requirements that now require vacancy sensors to control lights in bathrooms, garages, laundry rooms, and utility rooms.

I've purchased 3 of these for rooms where I need occupancy AND dimmer features. These work excellent for single pole, single location use (for a few dollars more, there is another version available which can work with multiple switches controlling the same load).

One of the switches was installed 5 years ago, and still works flawlessly, very impressive. They are also good looking, and very customizable.

No clicking, they turn on silent. They also have an ambient light sensor, which can be enabled/disabled in the programmable setup. The switch can be set to no occupancy mode and not turn on when the room is already bright enough, like during the day when curtains are open. Great energy savings.

On the con side, these are expensive, but sometimes quality costs. Buy with confidence.

PS: If you don't need BOTH dimmer AND occupancy features, there are other models available with just one of those abilities for about half the price.

Its a nice switch, the dimmer works well with both LED and Incandescent bulbs.
The motion sensor is adjustable, which is good because out of the box its set to brightest, however the programming of the switch is not intuitive, without the instructions you're not going to remember how to program it and finding the correct one for you switch without taking apart your wall plate is next to impossible. (so possible, but not easy).

Another quirk of this, and the reason I knocked a star off: Once configured to have the motion sensor not turn the lights on at full blast it becomes less sensitive. So having it at minimum brightness seems to be linked somehow to minimum sensitivity. Setting the sensitivity to high, put the switch back to max brightness. So its either BRIGHT and turns on the instant you walk into a room, or its Dim and turns on like 10 seconds after you enter... which for me defeated the purpose of the motion sensitive dimmer switch. I just wanted to stumble to the bathroom in the middle of the night and not totally eat it on a dog toy, and I also did not want to do that under the brightness of the sun.

I quickly and easily installed this Dimmer Switch in the bathroom, wishing to set a new automatically-dimmed light level for a new very-over-bright LED vanity light. I love the fact that I could adjust the default settings to my preferences (see photo for details, it's a bit tricky).

Now, as I begin to enter the doorway, the PIR motion sensor immediately recognizes the movement and quickly ramps up the brightness to my preferred, roughly-50%, level. Perfect !

The light remains on as long as motion continues to be detected. After my preferred setting of 3 minutes without motion, the light level is ramped down to zero. If a different brightness level is desired for a specific task, merely press toggle buttons.

I was a bit confused at first, but after noting that if you elect to, or accidentally, manually press the switch to turn the light Off, the auto-on feature will be disabled for 25 seconds, even if motion is detected. This is to provide occupants time to exit larger rooms after manually turning the lights off. If immediately re-entering the room (within 25 seconds), the unit must be manually turned on. After 25 seconds, the unit will return to normal detection operation.

We had a 3 way light in our hallway in a dark part of the house where the switches weren't in the easiest spots to access. I swapped out the central one with this motion activated dimmer switch as we have a baby on the way and thought this would make it easier to turn on the lights in the middle of the night while ensuring it could be dimmed instead of full brightness. If you've swapped out light switches before, this one is easy enough and the only trick was that with the 3 way, I needed the other one in the ON position for this one to be active. It's easy to program using the instruction manual, and the motion detection works extremely well (catches you coming around the hallway corner or out of rooms and turns on as you are entering the hallway). We've set it to turn on to the last used brightness, so before bed I turn it to a dimmer setting and in the morning keep it closer to full brightness. Very useful and works so well that I wish I'd installed it a year ago when I first thought about it!

I have a couple of the Vacancy versions of this sensor, and I just bought one of the occupancy versions. Carefully review the specs so you buy the right one. The occupancy sensor (OP) turns on automatically when you enter the room and turns off 5 minutes after you leave. It also has the dimmer which has about 8 discrete settings. All these things are adjustable, including the sensitivity.

I installed this on a circuit of 8 LED lamps in my garage. The idea is it replaces the crappy light on the garage door opener which turns on whenever the car enters the garage. So far it is working beautifully.

When you select one of these be sure to calculate your overall power usage. These babies get hot if you run them with more power than they are rated for. Further, if you put more than one in a box, the limit goes down. This is due to how much heat they create . The switch itself is quite large so you can't stuff any wires in behind it unless you have an extra deep box.

Its a good switch at a good price. I recommend. Just do your homework.

This ''little thing'' is very useful and easy to install (the instruction sheet is clear). I installed them in the bathrooms, the staircase, the walk-in closets, etc.
And then I refrained (for the moment) from installing them elsewhere! 😂

This motion switch works extremely well. After purchasing several other products, the issue I kept encountering was that LED bulbs would remain dimly lit despite the switch being in the off mode despite trying a number of popular dimmable brands. The reason for this issue, any motion switch that doesn't require a neutral wire relies on remaining energized for its internal components to work which often results in a minimal amount of power continuing to flow to the LED bulb. As I now understand it, switches that use a connection to the neutral wire are able to keep themselves powered while completely disconnecting the bulb from power. Hope this helps others avoid the frustrations I've encountered!
