So defectively designed water will not flow through a hose!!!

So defectively designed water will not flow through a hose!!!
This cart takes 45 minutes to an hour to assemble... properly. One problem for assembly is the handle... it has a domed carriage bolt style head and no way to hold it to tighten the nut that holds it onto the cart! Seriously... That's not the real problem... which is the defective design. The connection for the hose is perpendicular to the hose reel, and OUTSIDE of the reel... the instructions say to run the hose over the reel, and back down to the spool and then coil it from there. This causes the hose to kink immediately, 100% of the time! The only way to ever use this is to completely unreel the entire hose... but who would do that every time? They have a video of this product under the description... I have attached still photos from it. You can plainly see the terrible design, with the hose fully cut off. Not one drop of water ever made it through my hose! This is a pointless, useless, junk product. It cannot work... unless you go to the hardware store and buy a bunch of fittings to try and get the hose into the reel without a kink in it!

Very simple to install and looks great!
I did discover that the handle only likes to rotate when luring the hose out. To bring the hose back into the reel, just spin the actual rack the hose is wrapping around, don't rely on the handle alone or else the assembly will unscrew out. Not a big inconvenience whatsoever.
Very sturdy. I'm currently using a very heavy duty, 50' water hose and this holder is strong enough to accommodate without struggle. The wheels are what sold me on the initial purchase, and I am very happy with the design.

It came on time (maybe a day early) and despite obvious damage to the box, it arrived undamaged, too (and the vendor already contacted me when I posted that on the "how did we do about shipping" page and was VERY anxious to please).

Because I had read the reviews I wanted to protect from possible rust, so before assembling it I applied 3 coats of an exterior-grade rust-proofing enamel, waiting a day between applications to make sure they were dry.
Then I put it together (and doing so took maybe 20-30 minutes max - but I do have a shop and all the necessary tools, so YMMV), and there were absolutely no problems in assembling it.

I was disappointed that the connector to which the user attaches a garden hose was soldered on at an angle, so it appears to "weave" as I roll the hose out or roll it back in. But this is only a cosmetic issue and it really isn't a problem.

I have 200 feet of 3/4" hose on it and it all fits, but I couldn't put another 100 feet on there if I wanted to - not without using a smaller hose.

There is one minor problem, but it isn't a showstopper. When the hose does not yet have water in it, the force of winding it onto the reel makes the hose cart rock, and at that point I wish I had "foot rest" on it so that I could hold it still. But after that, even if I have only 50 feet or so of hose left on the reel, when I go wind the rest of the hose back onto it, that doesn't occur strongly enough to be an issue.

Overall I love this and it works exactly as decribed, and I'd buy it again.

    Definitely recommended.

This is my third attempt at buying a hose reel cart. The first one wasn't big enough for my hose and with the second one, the leader hose would turn with the reel and kink up, so both of my first purchases were returned. I read the reviews for this hose reel and many others and there doesen't seem to be one that doesn't have issues but I settled on this one.

Be aware before you read this review that I am not a handy person and have a hard time reading and following directions to put thing together. I read the directions but I don't always understand what I am supposed to do. So anytime I can successfully put something together, it is a win for me.

There's are not a lot of parts that need assembly. I am not good at putting things together and understanding directions for putting things together but I was able to understand the directions pretty well. It says that all you need is an adjustable wrench to put this together but later in the directions it says to use two adjustable wrenchs to tighten nuts. I have an adjustable wrench but I'm not good with tools so I ended up using a socket wrench and that worked very well for me. It was tricky to tighten the part where you attach your hose to the intake valve, be sure not have the basket on when attaching your hose because the basket gets in the way. The picture in the directions shows how to thread your hose to connect it to the valve so it won't get kinked up when you turn the reel and I had a hard time following the picture. I thought I had it right but when I turned the handle, my hose was getting kinked up so I didn't look at the picture in the directions and figured it out on my own on how to thread this and it worked so my hose does not kink.

I think I may have gotten a used one that was returned because on the intake for the leader hose, there was white plummer's tape already on it and I don't think it is supposed to come that way.

I have a very long, heavy hose, I think it is about 200 feet and it kinks up very easily. However, when I had to wind it up on this reel, it was fairly easy to do and the kinks worked themselves out of the hose. I was happy with the way it winded itself on the reel.

After I got it put together I tested it and it leaked! It leaked were I attached my hose to the intake so I disconnected that, got some plummer's tape and put that one the intake around the grooves and re-attached my hose. That worked and now it does not leak.

Overall it seems like it will work for me. It holds all of my hose and I stopped the leaking. I know people say these rust but in all of the reviews I read, I haven't seen one yet that does not rust, unless it's all plastic. I hope this reel will serve me well in years to come.

this is not heard to put together... my husband could not put it together.. we are retired we put this together it only took about 40 mins. When we took it outside to hook up the hoses it leaked terriable the leaks was coming from the brass part where you hook into the wheel and the opposite end as well. Not sure how to fix that due to the fact it may need a rubber gasket between it and it is impossiable to put one there. I would not advise anyone to buy this product.. the wheel that the hose gets winds up on is diffucutl to use due to the fact it needs a peice of tin wrapped around it so the hose does not fall thru.. I am happy I only bought one. I still needed 2 more but for the price it is not worth buying.. At least if i buy one from walmart i would expect a crap, But tor the price I paid it is not worth the hassle and all the leaks.. Have to wrap something around the leak in order to get it to work somewhat.. Think I am just going to give this to someone else let it be their issue.. I could have just let the hose lay on the ground at least there it dont leak,.. this is more of a hassel instead of a help..when i put it togerher the handle was still loose even thou titened it the all the way.. the handle still moved..

I wish I had thought about the small surface area of the rods where you wind the hose. These small diameter rods are sure to crimp the first layer of hose as you wind it. I will modify mine to make it work. Otherwise well built unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Assemble, Solid so Far
Reviewed in Canada on May 22, 2020

Firstly the review of the packaging and assembly. The package comes in a 2'x2'x2 box (approximately) and it was surprisingly light. The reel was nicely packaged and there were no missing elements. Assembly took approximately 30 minutes, and you only need 2 crescent wrenches. But I made a modification so it took longer. What I did was I made a drum out of a sheet of aluminum around the steel rods that the hose wraps around. Why? Some have complained that the hose kinks around the metal rods. With a smooth drum problem solved. Just cut a piece of aluminum (they are in the air duct section of the hardware store, cut it to size (a rectangle, cause you're making a cylinder) using a pair of aluminum cutters, wrap it around the rods, tape in place temporarily then use screws to secure.

The build quality is high. All welds are solid. I was wary because there are a lot of imitation products out there (Yardworks looking at you) that are reported to inferior quality. With the drum in place the rolling action is perfect and the hose rolls up neatly and releases neatly. I used a Flexilla 100' hose which is slightly soft but high quality. I teflon taped all joints and I hand tightened all of them. Nothing leaked. Lithium greased the moving parts, no squeaks, all is smooth. So far so good.

I think the test of a good reel is how many winters it can withstand. I have had a lot of hose reels in my life and they last typically about 2 years if left outside. So I've concluded that nothing quite stands up to Canadian winters in Ontario so I will be moving this inside in the offseason.

The spray gun end does dangle on the ground, and I wish it had a hose guide to get it off the ground but I guess that's a quibble.

Assembly was well thought out and fun to do. It was fairly quick since it was well documented. My only complain is that the assembly for the rubber handle were a bit finicky. Also the D shafts spins inside its housing. Its likely that the tolerance were a bit off for that part. However, it only affected assembly. Functionality is untouched.

Construction wise, it is a really good mechanical build. The engineers/technicians behind it did a really good job so kudos to them!

I'm sure this will last me a lifetime

As a person with not much mechanical ability and with arthritis in my hands, I found this garden hose caddy quite easy to assemble. I did need someone to tighten all the bolts because I don't have much strength in my hands. When it was all assembled, there were no leaks (but we did have to add extra teflon tape to supplement what was supplied). The caddy arrived in timely fashion. I am very happy with how easy it is to wind the hose on to the reel with just a small amount of guidance with my free hand. Great purchase! Thanks.
