10 of 16 Umarex Surge Air Rifle Reviews
I bought one of these for my wife from my cousin it was new so we came together on the price & 1250 Crosman Pointed Pellets . The Surge shoot very accuratley for a $100 kit I just love the stock & where Umarex Put the saftey Much better than the Fuel Or Octane This little rifle shoots very tight grups at 20 yards. As fas as i am concerned it a better rifle than the Octane I bought one here & the saftey broke on it just after a few day so i returned it for another one & it just wouldn't group at all I even tried 2 different scopes that i KNOW that are true & put the one that came with the Octane on her Surge & it shot a very tight group & the scope i put on the Umarex did the exact same thing we tried 5 different types & weights of pellets NO MORE OCTANES FOR ME .But the wife's Surge is a good little shooting rifle
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing really it ia a good entry .177 cal for my wife until she out grows it & then we will choose another rifle to suit her skills as the develop
What Others Should KnowThe Umarex Serge is a good entry level for a new air gunner I would recommend it for a first gun .
Acurracy, power, stock.
Things I Would Have ChangedMaybe factory loctite the screws that hold the gun to the stock.
What Others Should KnowThis is an excellent gun, at 20 yards (my zero) a dime is an easy hit. So far I've bagged 4 squirrels using the guns favorite crosman premier hollow point 7.9 grains. Best value
this gun is good to 30 yds.and fair at 50 yds.once you learn to hold it or get it broke in
Things I Would Have Changedthe scope is cheep first time i shot mine the front of the scope fell off dropping front lense. nothing broke i put it back together and it has stayed so far
What Others Should Knowthis gun is supposed to shoot 1200fps i have only shot winchester hunting pellets and they shoot 950fps.
Great Feel, Nice Smooth Trigger, decent weight so it can stay put on a firing, accuracy is ok.
Things I Would Have Changedneeds iron sights (i prefer iron over scopes), safety feels a bit flimsy and maybe its just me but it seems like i naturally switch it off after loading.
What Others Should Knowi liked this gun so much i bought a nice scope for it and it has lasted me 2 years so far. this is my 2nd air rifle.
What is there NOT to like about this gun? It's heavy and solid. Feels like a real quality product. It feels good in the hands and it's easy to use. Pellets fit snug/flush in the barrel. If the quality of a gun is measured by how much smoke rises from the barrel, when you break it open for another round... this thing is absolutely AWESOME!
Things I Would Have ChangedThe barrel is a real workout, to break open. I'm talking about bringing it down, til it latches, to load a pellet. But if that's any indicator of how powerful the spring is, it's worth it.
What Others Should KnowThis gun is my second upgrade from my Marksman Zombie Splat BB Repeater Rifle. My first upgrade was a Daisy Powerline 880. This air rifle is a beast... it's definitely not a minor upgrade. It is a serious deal, both in how it's operated as well as how powerful it is. Definitely worth the money!
Price, Has a well built feel to it, plenty of power, easy to cock and the trigger is adequate.
Things I Would Have ChangedBetter scope, maybe at least a 3x9x32 variable and some open sights.
What Others Should KnowPretty loud even after 200 rounds, and a bit on the heavy side. You need to make sure all screws are tight especially the breach pivot pin, and the stock screws. Need to apply some Blue Loctite on them to keep from loosening. Mine loosened up after about 25 rounds.
This was curiosity getting the best of me again...wanted to see what this type of stock shot & felt like..never had a synthetic stock before & only have 1.177 cal.,all my air rifles are .22's...the price was right..prexmas deal got me !So anyway, this rifle was a nice surprise for me....I really like the thing a lot, first impression was it's nose heavy but soon found out that wasn't an issue for me! I got this rifle with target shooting in mind & this Surge was more fun that I could have hoped for ! I like the stock, the way it shoots ,feels...this is a fun break barrel rifle! Easy to cock,no maintenance stock & the funny part is this Umarex has the least barrel droop of any of my much higher priced rifles, so little I didn't have to shim rear of scope !Has a ball type lock up & weird trigger set up but it seems to works better than most right out of the box ! This would make a great first rifle for a young or new shooter...if it's set up properly !
Things I Would Have ChangedReally for the money...their isn't much you could expect to change for that kind of money ! The usual scope thing ...I have a whole draw of these junk scopes,I don't even think of installing such poor quality things ! That's my big gripe...sell the rifles with out the bad scopes...am sure a lot of airgunner's will agree with that !
What Others Should Know Will need bore cleaned...lube every thing
including trigger..and blue locktite all
screws & check often for tightness..will
loosen up even with locktite on screws! I
tried many different make & size pellets
&finally wound up with Crosman 7.9 shooting as accurate as any & better than
most....ya can spend a bundle on all kinds of different brands & weights & many times find out that the lower priced
Crosman shoot as good as any...just my
opinion !Only problem I had with this rifle was arms were rubbing on inside of
stock, making noise ...a little grease took care of problem. One more thing ...
join the NRA....$35.....you'll be doing
us all a big favor !
Good LOOKIN! Shoots accurate! Looks well made!
Things I Would Have ChangedWould not change a thing, the engineer did a excellent job of design for the price!
What Others Should KnowI have just been shooting at a target with ouy the scope. It seems everyone has trouble with the scopes. I am going to mount it after 250 shoots to let it break in.
The first thing I noticed about this rifle was the weight and feel. The rifle is very well balanced and feels real sturdy in your hands. Got the feel of a high quality firearm.
Things I Would Have ChangedIt is my opinion that a rifle built this well should have a higher quality of scope mounted on it. The scope is more then adequate for the range and accuracy of the weapon, just doesn't look as good as it could.
What Others Should KnowThe rifle surprised me when taking my first shot, it was a little louder then I expected. The trigger pull is smooth and crisp. I believe it requires less then the 30 pounds of pressure to cock the weapon as stated in the specs.

The rifle itself is very accurate and has plenty of power for small game. My rifle likes crossman dome pellets and will stack ten of them into a quarter sized group at twenty-five yards, at fifty yards the accuracy is still pretty good and you shouldn't have problems with body shots on squirrel sized game if you are a good marksman. Also this rifle isn't quite as hold sensitive as other springers that I have shot which is really nice for hunting. Overall I don't know of a better gun for the money.
Things I Would Have ChangedLocktite the screws holding the stock on as others have said. Also replace the scope with one a bit better when you get the chance as the one that comes with it is decent but not great.
What Others Should Knowhis gun produces between 16 and 17 ft/lbs of energy with my best results coming from the 10.5 grain crossman domed pellets averaging 840 fps.
Make sure you clean this rifle before firing it for the first time.
Try a bunch of different pellets because it took a while to find one that it liked.
