Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I have multiple allergies as well as Roseacea. I never used to. I could wear any kind of make-up. It took me the best part of a year to find products that I could use and recently added Tarte to the very short list of make-up that I don't have a problem with. I'm not sacrificing anything by using Tarte products; they're all amazing quality, and the price is right. Very easy to use, this liner stays on until I wash it off. Indigo is great as a softer option to black. How wonderful is it that you can use Tarte knowing the commitment to the environment the company has, as well as knowing you're doing a good thing for your skin too, with all natural ingredients. I am in love with this line. The Lights Camera Lashes Mascara is the best I have ever used. I used to pay big bucks for Lancome, but Tarte is better, for less money.
I didn't want to try this because I used similar liners in a jar before and they were not long lasting and the black color was not intense. I finally tried this Tarte Amazonian Clay Liner (part of the Sephora liner kit) and was blown away. The black color was intense and it was very long wearing (with sealer).
Useful hints:
-- Use a fine-tip liner brush, a bent tip (angled) one if you can maneuver it. The hair on the Smash Box brush looked thick but surprisingly gave me a very thin line if I use the tip to apply to the inner & outer corners of the eyes.
-- I seem to get more color saturation if I load the brush at the edge -- point the brush tip to one side of the jar and gently swipe where the liner meets the jar. I have to reload 3-4 times to do one eye (top lashline only). But the result is the blackest black that I've seen.
-- Always use an eye liner sealer if you have oily eyelids like me. Sephora Eyeliner Last .12 oz is a good one. For some reason, they've taken it off the .com store but was available at the mall retail store for only $6. Try Benefit if the Sephora one is not available. After 12 hours, the liner looked untouched. I've also noticed that the Eyeliner Last intensifies the color even more and leaves a nice sheen, not too shiny--a very nice effect.
-- Apply the sealer after all your shadows & mascara are done. If the sealer gets on the mascara, it may make the 2nd coat of mascara more difficult to apply. The sealer gives any shadow near the liner a nice intensity & finish.
-- Sealer on the bottom liner is a must, just in case an allergy, a sad movie, or your child makes you cry. I have not found a liner that would last on me without a sealer, esp. at the corners. Chanel automatic pencil comes close but doesn't go on well in cold/average weather--tugs the skin.
-- On the top, I like to take the liner gradually upward a little after the half way point and out just a little past the outer corner. On the bottom outer corner, I take the liner just a smidgen down from the lashline to open up the eyes.
-- You'll need a good eye makeup remover to take it off. See my DHC Deep Cleansing Oil review--this liner just wouldn't budge with mere cleansers. For me, it's a good thing.
-- It may take a few times to master the use of a liner brush with this jar liner. But if you like the color payoff, it is worthwhile. For me, the first time always goes well. The second and third time, somehow it took more time. If I'm in a rush, I'll reach for the Urban Decay Zero pencil, with the sealer of course.
-- Get it in the smallest size possible, for example in a kit. I've heard that these liner can dry out if exposed to air too much as in opening/closing the jar too much. Besides, I've never ever gotten to the bottom of even one makeup product in my whole life (other than lip gloss), so why pay more. Kits are such a good way to try things and usually a good value. If you have a definite use for the majority of the items in a kit, then the rest will just be experiments or gifts. If you can't use half the stuff, look/wait for another kit. It's not worth it.
I'm not one to try color liners, but if you are adventurous the bronze and the indigo seem very pretty. Have fun!
