The BEST 4 Seasons in my 45yrs!
Annie Sophie Mutter and Herbert Von Karajan were meant to work together from day one. Karajan found Her when She was 13 and knew right off She was incredible. In my opinion this is THE best rendition of Vivaldi 4 Seasons available! These two together on this Cd is just breath taking!! I'm sure once you hear it and compare it to others you will agree. This was also available from Musical Heritage Society MHS in 1998 as a "New Digital Remix" Originally done on EMI Label in 1984. I VERY HIGHLY Recommend this Cd for your Collection!

    I have many recordings of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, both HIP and un-HIP; one even transcribed for flute by James Galway.

    On this recording a young Anne-Sophie Mutter joins forces with Herbert Von Karajan who was by then in his final decade. While one might think that Karajan and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra would bog down the freshness of Vivaldi's spirit, it's Mutter and her bright, full and youthful tone that makes for such a well-SEASONED performance.

    It has to be said first that authenticists should run 1,000,000 miles from this recording. It is certainly not authentic either in instrumental in or in style. Having said that it is hugely enjoyable. Soloist and conductor obviously have a great understanding and rhythms are lithe and buoyant. I found this a hugely enjoyable traverse all of this music. And after all that is what music is about!
