On the occasion of Mauricio Kagel's 70th birthday, WERGO publishes two early works by Kagel on CD, which had already been released on two LPs, in 1968: "Heterophonie" for orchestra with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt conducted by Michael Gielen and "Improvisation ajoutée" for organ, scilfully played by Gerd Zacher. Kagel sets conditions in his "Heterophonie" score, establishes borders, or opens spaces in which the sound of the performance is each time newly created. In "Improvisation ajoutée" the voices of the participants (Gerd Zacher playing the organ and two composers assisting at the stops: Juan Allende-Blin and Yngve Jan Trede) create a new dimension for the piece: the singing, speaking, whistling, and shouting, as well as clapping, cut across the sound of the organ and extend it into areas beyond that which is purely instrumental.
