Guitarist Ralph Towner was impressed by the performance he saw at an Italian music festival by the prodigious British pianist John Taylor and singer Maria Pia De Vito--so much so that later that evening he suggested forming a trio. While Towner and Taylor are lynchpins of the ECM stable, De Vito is not as well known. She has an impressive CV, nonetheless, having worked with Michael Brecker, Kenny Wheeler and Joshua Redman in addition to her compatriots Enrico Rava and Gianluigi Trovesi.
