SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a depressive illness caused by shortened daylight hours and limited exposure to sunlight and is often referred to as ’Seasonal Depression’ or ‘Winter Blues'. The symptoms of SAD reoccur regularly each winter and usually begin between September and November, continuing until March or April. For about 20% of the population mild symptoms of SAD cause discomfort, but not serious suffering.
