Paco Peña has few rivals in the world of flamenco guitar and Flamenco Master offers a good introduction to his passionate art. He's well known to British audiences for his regular stage spectaculars that involve many other musicians and dancers, but this compilation focuses largely on Peña the soloist, drawing on four of the best albums he recorded for the now defunct Nimbus label in the late 80s and early 90s. Of these, only the material from Encuentro Paco Peña y Eduardo Falú and the somewhat overrated Misa Flamenca feature vocal accompanists--in the case of the latter, a whole choir of singers from the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields Chorus.
