The title Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors refers to the frightening predicament protagonist Junpei finds himself in: he's trapped in a sinking ship with eight other passengers, he has only nine hours to live, and there are nine locked doors leading to his freedom. To help Junpei make it out alive, you will have to put your gray matter to use while solving various cryptic puzzles. In between the puzzles are exploration sequences, where you'll be able to use the stylus to navigate each ship's room to find helpful items and clues needed to unlock each door.
